Aslam Khan & Arshad Khan
Started rallying at age of 21
Age: Turning 70 in June.
I have entered and finished all the East African Safari Classic Rallies except 2017( which I was unable to enter).
The East African Safari Classic Rally is the greatest event and I am happy there is a change in ownership and management, which has reflected the number of entries this year.
Have done the Morrocan Classic, Himalayan and Acropolis as a Navigator.
In the Himalayan Rally we had hat-trick wins in the years 1981, 1982 and 1983.
Best result was 11th in 2019.
Best result in the 1983 Safari Rally was 4th Overall with Jayant Shah as the driver.
Arshad Shah is my younger brother.
Our uncle Saeed Khan started in the Coronation Safari Rallies in the mid 1950’s and since then the family as been “hooked or addicted” to Rallying.
Won three Kenya Rally Championships with Jayant Shah in 1981, 1982 and 1983.
In 1983 Jayant Shah and I were joint motorsport men of the year.
In 2013, I was elected motorsports personality of the year.
In 1983 the Safari Rally was special for the Khan Family as I finished fourth overall with Jayant Shah and Arshad finished ninth overall with Javaid Alam.
Started rallying at the age of 18.
I have entered four Classic rallies in the years 2003, 2011, 2013 and 2019. Best result was 11th overall and I have also finished all of the rallies.
I did the last Classic Rally with Jayant Shah and I also won the Himalayan Rally in 1985, which was Jayant Shah’s hat-trick.
Als Motorsports has entered three different types of car in the classic rally;
Twice with the Datsun 180B
Three times with the Ford Escort ( once with my niece Samira Khan)
Three times with the Porche 911 (once again with Samira and Chantal)
The “crazy Khan” family has managed to get nephews, nieces and now grandnephews addicted to Rallying and in Particular the Classic Rally.
Farhaaz and Imran Khan (Arshad’s sons) have been involved with every Classic Rally.
